There (obviously) seems to be a few niche markets that dominate the Pinterest world right now: fashion, food, recipes, wedding ideas, home decor, furniture, etc. As stats help to show, these industries most likely do well because a high number of users are women and a high number of users are between the ages 25 and 34.
However, continual growth in the numbers of users, types of users and number of visitors every day (stats say an average of 1.36 million users a day), I think we’ll see more and more industries joining the site.
If you’re a public relations, social media or creative agency looking to join Pinterest, here are some ideas to help get you started:
1. Blog Posts
Whether it’s a collection of your favorite blog posts with eye-catching visuals or blog posts from your company’s website, a board dedicated to blogs and individual posts cannot only benefit you as having them bookmarked in one convenient location, but it can show others what you’re reading and how you’re staying abreast of the industry.
2. Use Pinterest as an “Online Portfolio”
Have a graphic designer, web developer, or artist on the team? Or do you have a lot of visual work online? Use those to your advantage and make a board as just another addition to your “online portfolio”. Tie in future projects or future ideas on this board as well so followers can see tidbits of what you have coming up in the future.
3. Meet The Team/A Day in the Office
Show the people on Pinterest who you are. First, pin photos (maybe a series of fun, creative headshots of your employees) so people can get to know your team. Then after that, you can continually pin any photos from company parties, client events, strategy meetings, on-the-job photos, etc. In turn, these photos could be connected to a blog post on your website, which can help bring traffic back to your blog and website.
4. Book Covers
An idea I really liked from a post by Lisa Barone of Outspoken Media is dedicating a board to book covers. If you’ve written a book/e-book, pin it there along with other book covers of books you’ve read, are currently reading, or want to read. There are books written about everything so you’ll be able to find covers in relation to the various aspects of the public relations industry and go from there.
Those are just a few ideas to help get you started on using Pinterest for your company or agency. As of now, five of my favorite brands using Pinterest are:
