social media management for retailers and retail centers

Social media management as a retailer, or even a retail center, can be beneficial for a handful of reasons. Once you’ve established yourself in the social realm, though, you need to think about exactly when you should be posting to generate the most engagement and feedback.

A recent study from Yesmail, focusing on big retailers such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap, H&M, J. Crew and Ann Taylor, points out the key days and times when retailers and centers should be posting on Facebook as well as other social sites like Twitter and YouTube.

Check out some of the Facebook figures below:

Facebook (Days)

  • Updates on Tuesdays received the most engagement, followed by Wednesdays and then Thursdays.
  • The least busiest days for engagement were Saturday and Sunday.
  • From the study, it appeared that everyone was posting on Fridays so, that’s the day to avoid getting trapped in the “message overload.” Posting on Fridays means you have to compete with all of the other pages so steer clear of posting that day.

Facebook (Time)

  • For retailers, between 10 p.m. and midnight ET was the best time to be posting on Facebook. (Yesmail believed this was true because many of the brands they studied “are popular with college students, who are often awake and online during these hours.”)
  • Although, for you night owls, don’t post between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. as posts between those times received the least engagement.

Facebook (Frequency)

  • Brands who posted 20-32 times per month had the most engagement on their pages.
  • Brands who posted an average of 54 times had the least engagement. (Guess it’s true…less is more!)
  • Also, as we’ve previously known, pictures and videos created the most engagement while links tended to do the opposite.

For more information on the study, including when to tweet and post YouTube videos, read more from PR Daily or download the study from Yesmail here.
