Facebook made big changes to its page terms earlier this week. The company announced that it would no longer require businesses to run promotions through apps. Now, if a business wants to run a contest on the platform, it can be done directly through Facebook.

Facebook is finally allowing businesses to run contests on their timelines. This is something that was against Facebook’s page terms before this week. Users can now enter contests through posting, commenting and “Liking” a business’ page. “Likes” are now an extremely effective way to generate votes for contests.

This is a game changer because it saves businesses from having to spend money on third party contest management apps and generally encourages more contests. So, it’s good for both contest-loving consumers and businesses.

You can expect to see more contests sprinkled throughout your newsfeed because it’s cheaper for businesses to do and a heck of a lot easier to set up. Let’s say your business wants to run a contest that involves giving away a product (maybe something like movie tickets or an iPad). All you really need to do is post a status about it and follow through with your promise.

Contests like these are an amazing way to engage your business’ Facebook audience.  If you really want to extend your reach, throw your contest on a promoted post targeting people outside of your current fan base!
