Hi there! My name is Derek DeMott and I’m thrilled to start experiencing the real world of advertising outside of the classroom with Agency Entourage. Currently, I’m a student at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and will be a Junior this fall. I’m expected to graduate in the spring of 2018 as a Journalism major emphasizing in Advertising. I find myself to be someone who is confident, eager to learn, and maintains a positive attitude in any work setting.
To have a real chance of experiencing the advertising world, I needed to show my willingness to travel and spend some time in a city that has many opportunities. Dallas seemed to be the perfect place because I have visited here many times and have loved every minute of it. It is fitting that my sister lives in Dallas where I can room with her during my internship. Plus she is in the advertising industry too. It’s great to have someone with many insights who I can also turn to when in need of any guidance.
Entering college, I wasn’t exactly certain on which field I wanted to study. There are so many options out there. I didn’t want to head in a direction that I would regret later. Starting my sophomore year, I decided to take on the career path of advertising. With help from the Senior Vice President of Advertising at R.W. Baird & Co. Financial, she has broadened my awareness that advertising is a growing field containing many opportunities. Her and my sister both made me feel like I chose the right path.
At the moment, I’m uncertain which department of advertising I’d like to pursue. However, having an internship will provide me with a better understanding for all advertising aspects. I’m looking forward to this opportunity at Agency Entourage to help advance my knowledge and skills in addition to gaining the experience of the advertising industry to make for a better career.
