Apple just introduced the world to iOS 8. Yesterday, the tech industry turned a majority of its focus to Apple’s 2014 Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple used this event to announce the latest updates and newest features for iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

iOS 8 will be available for public download sometime this Fall.

 

What’s iOS 8 All About?
From first glance, iOS 8 is going to attempt to make instant communication even faster. Apple has tweaked several existing capabilities allowing you to respond to text messages, social media interactions and general app alerts directly from a new notification system. iOS 8 will also allow you to get in touch with your contacts much quicker with new shortcuts enabled by double tapping the menu button.

New iOS 8 Features
Some of the coolest new features you can expect to have on your devices later this year include: 

  • HealthKit: HealthKit is a health application that is expected to compete with Jawbone Up, Fit Bit and other trendy fitness apps. HealthKit will monitor blood pressure, sleep, weight and heart rate. The unique thing about HealthKit is that it will allow information to be sent directly to your primary physician.
  • Parental Control: If turned on, iOS 8 will alert parents to the location of their children. It will also send app approval notifications and store all photos on iCloud. 
  • HomeKit: HomeKit expands the functionality of your device. It will allow you to control several items around the home with your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Some of these things include: alarms, locks, lights, switches and thermostats. 
  • Better Group Messaging: How many times have you gotten on a chain of text messages you have no interest in reading? With iOS 8 you will be able to leave group messages. Apple also has also expanded audio and video messaging capabilities for group messages.
  • Mac OS X Yosemite: Mac OS X Yosemite is Apple’s  newest operating system for the iMac and Macbook. This update will bring a new look to your Mac. Along with a new design comes an array of new features, the most intriguing is iPhone integration that allows users to answer phone calls and text messages directly from their Mac.
