When the news hit this month, the reactions were unsurprisingly negative. For instance, Business Week is sure that this is the last push Instagram will need to lose millions of users. Forbes even exclaimed “The honeymoon’s over.”
Amid all the publicity, Instagram assured users that ads won’t interrupt the experience.
“Our aim is to make any advertisements you see feel as natural to Instagram as the photos and videos many of you already enjoy from your favorite brands. After all, our team doesn’t just build Instagram, we use it each and every day. We want these ads to be enjoyable and creative in much the same way you see engaging, high-quality ads when you flip through your favorite magazine.”
As far as the details of the changes, it is too early to really determine what they are, but here is what you need to know:
- The ads will only be available to a handful of users initially.
- Users and brands will maintain ownership of their photos and videos.
- Instagram has not released the amount ads will cost.
