While summer may seem devoid of fun, national holidays besides Independence Day, there is one happening this weekend that is our personal favorite – Social Media Day! Social Media Day, which is this Sunday, June 30, is a day to celebrate the ways in which social media has changed our lives and it’s also a celebration of the people who make social media so fun and enlightening, according to Mashable.

Here are a few fun facts about Social Media Day:

  • Social Media Day is celebrated all over the world from Sri Lanka to Morocco to Dallas-Fort Worth!
  • Mashable launched Social Media Day in 2010 as a way to recognize the digital revolution happening around the world.
  • The Dallas Mashable Social Media Day Meetup is this Sunday at 4 pm in Richardson, TX. Get the details here.
  • Keep track of all online activity for #SMday online here: http://mashable.com/smday/.

Without the growth and advancements of the social media industry, our full-service digital marketing agency would not be what it is today. It’s crazy to think that in 2010, the year Social Media Day was launched, there was no such thing as Instagram, Google+ or Vine!

Social media marketing and strategy is just one core component of our business; we additionally implement blogging, SEO, paid media, live event activation and video strategy for our clients.

While we like to think we’ve perfected our use of social media, there’s always more to learn and share with others – that’s what I love the most about social media. My team members at Agency Entourage took some time to tell me what they like most about social media.

“My favorite part of social media is the community and the ability to connect with other people – some who I know and some who I’ve never met,” said DeAndre Upshaw, Interactive Producer and Video Strategist.

“Social media is transparent and you get a real sense of the personality of a business,” said Stephanie Arbetter, Interactive Producer. “Social media made me think more strategically about the message I’m sending out, for me and for the client. It’s about how you want to be portrayed.”

“I like being able to talk with thought leaders,” said Jake Jordan, Senior SEO Strategist. “I also like being able to quickly share pictures with friends and family who I don’t get to see regularly.”

“I love the way that social media has completely revolutionized the way that we communicate and receive information and makes everyone accessible,” said Jonathan Morris, Account Director.
