Instagram News Feed ChangesInstagram recently announced that it will be making major news feed changes in the near future. Posts will no longer be chronological. The platform will slowly begin displaying content in a much different way. The order of content will now be based on three important criteria:

  1. How likely a user is to be interested in a post
  2. The relationship a user has with specific accounts
  3. Timeliness of the post

From Instagram:

“To improve your experience, your feed will soon be ordered to show the moments we believe you will care about the most. As we (Instagram) begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order.”

How This Effects You
This move by Instagram represents a push to increase the quality of your user experience. The order you see content will no longer be dependent on when an Instagram account publishes its content.

How This Effects Marketers
We hear it all the time. “Content is king.” This move will require marketers to increase the quality of each piece of content they post.
