South by Southwest is known for bringing large groups of people together in a celebration of Interactive, Film, Music and Comedy. However a huge aspect of the festival and of Austin as a whole seems to be left out of all the creative promotions: Food. You cannot leave Austin or SXSW and say you didn’t experience some great food. If you’re new to the city, here are a the top 5 places to eat in Austin.
Hopdoddy
You might’ve heard about this place before, it continues to be a popular place, especially in Texas, where it has expanded to many cities. They’re known for their hearty burgers with natural meat, grounded in house.
Kerbey Lane
Boasting multiple locations in the area, Kerbey Lane is a classic Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch spot local to Austin. If you’re looking for a homestyle meal head over to Kerbey Lane, you won’t be disappointed.
Juan in a Million
If you are looking to fill up quick for an affordable price, this is the place to go. Mainly serving authentic Mexican food and breakfast, they’re usually closed by mid afternoon. However one successful meal here could keep you going easily at least half a day.
Torchy’s Tacos
Now a chain restaurant all over Texas including a spot in Colorado, Torchy’s originated in Austin. Go and taste for yourself the tacos that have made them so successful. Their quirky and flavorful combinations will leave you satisfied no matter what.
Franklin’s Barbecue
You cannot get more Texan or local than Franklin’s BBQ. They boast an unpredictable schedule since they open at 11 a.m. and only stay open for as long as they have meat. Regardless the wait will be worth it to check off a legendary restaurant.
